“Landsmót Hestamanna” is the famous tournament of the best horses and riders in Iceland. In 2026, this event will take place in Hólar, North Iceland. That’s why we want to give everyone who enjoys horses the chance to combine their Landsmót visit with a riding tour.
In the past, it was quite common for participants to actually ride their horses all the way to the tournament grounds. All information about Landsmót 2026 can be found here:

Riding Tour July 4–9, 2026
Saturday, July 4
We will pick you up at the bus in Sauðárkrókur at 2 PM, or you can come directly to our farm.
After a small snack we’ll head to the horses. We’ll go on a short introductory ride to see which rider matches which horse for the next few days. In the evening, we’ll enjoy dinner together.
Sunday, July 5
After breakfast together we saddle our horses and start our first stage. Everyone takes along a hand horse, and part of the ride will lead us across a black sand beach to another farm. This ride takes about 2–3 hours. The horses stay in beautiful pastures while we return for lunch.
In the afternoon, we’ll go to Grettislaug, a natural hot spring right by the sea. In the evening, we’ll share dinner again.
Monday, July 6
After breakfast we return to the horses and ride through the beautiful Kolkuós area with amazing ocean views. After about 3 hours of riding we leave the horses in a nice pasture and head back to the farm for lunch. Afterwards, we’ll visit the turf house museum in Glaumbær before having dinner together in the evening.
Tuesday, July 7
After breakfast we set off again to our horses and ride into Kolbeinsdalur.
With some luck we might already see the first free-roaming horses that spend the summer in these mountain pastures. After about 2 hours of riding the horses remain in Kolbeinsdalur, while we drive to the swimming pool in Hofsós.
Back at the farm there will be time to relax before dinner.
Wednesday, July 8
Today, after breakfast, we drive to Kolbeinsdalur where everyone saddles a horse. We ride into the valley on a beautiful 1.5-hour ride. Afterwards, we continue with all the horses towards Hólar, where they will stay overnight.
After a lunch break at home, we can give anyone who wishes a ride to Sauðárkrókur before meeting again for dinner.
Thursday, July 9
This is our last riding day. After breakfast, we go to our horses in Hólar and ride into Hjaltadalur, the valley of Hólar. At Reykir, the last farm in the valley, the horses will go to pasture. After a small lunch break we’ll drive everyone who wants to Landsmót (or back to the farm, if someone doesn’t wish to attend).
From here our tour is “officially over”, but it is possible to stay longer at our guesthouse, and we can also provide transport to/from Hólar.
Price until the start of Landsmót: 250,000 ISK // 1,750 €
